The initial state of the kitchen was rather uninspiring. It was compact, poorly lit, and lacked functionality and storage. Our client longed not only for increased storage but also aspired to transform the kitchen into a warm, welcoming heart of the home.
The kitchen bench, a favourite gathering point for family and friends, was in desperate need of expansion and an upgrade in storage facilities. With two young adults residing in the house, their morning routines often culminated in a chaotic kitchen scene, underscoring the need for a complete overhaul of the floor plan.
To revolutionise the space, we removed an obsolete, non-functional window to make room for additional wall storage. We installed two skylights to flood the room with natural light. The kitchen bench was extended to a generous 2.8m x 1100 wide dimension, and we introduced innovative 'drawers within drawers' and two floor-to-ceiling pull-out pantries on either side of the kitchen.
We incorporated further storage under the bench and introduced a contrasting colour to the bench, adding a dash of visual intrigue. For added convenience, a hot water tap was installed and the fridge was plumbed in.
We amplified the lighting by adding three elegant pendant lights above the kitchen bench, another pendant at the entrance, and a stunning David Trubridge Pendant above the dining room table.
An old bookshelf was revitalised and painted to match the colour of the kitchen bench, then recessed into the dining room wall to serve as a bar, thereby maximising storage.
Additionally, we redesigned the TV wall and storage space, and introduced texture with a Grasscloth wall covering from Phillip Jeffries.
The entire house was given a fresh new look with engineered oak timber flooring. The herringbone pattern in living areas and engineered oak floorboards in bedrooms added a touch of sophistication. The window coverings in the bedroom and office were replaced with timber shutters and Venetian blinds, enhancing the overall aesthetics.
In conclusion, the Rothesay Renovation project has succeeded in transforming a previously cramped and dark kitchen into a functional, bright, and inviting space. The kitchen has now become the hub of the home, boasting increased storage and elevated aesthetics. The comprehensive refurbishment, including the new flooring and window treatments, has significantly enhanced the comfort and style of the entire house.
The previous setup of the downstairs half bath was visibly outdated. However, to accommodate the client's preference of not relocating fixtures such as the toilet and hand basin, we opted for a creative approach to revitalise the space.
Firstly, we selected a larger, lighter tile that instantly brightened the room and gave it a more expansive feel. We repositioned the shower head, enhancing the usability of the space. A niche in the shower was created for convenience and aesthetics, while the old wall was swapped out for a floor-to-ceiling glass panel, adding a modern touch.
We further amplified the room's appeal by incorporating textured subway tiles. These were arranged in a vertical pattern to accentuate the shades of the blue tiles used in the shower. The introduction of a coloured vanity provided a pop of colour, and a round mirror with LED lighting added a touch of elegance.
To ensure the bathroom was not only visually pleasing but also functional, we implemented sensor-activated lighting. For added comfort, two vertical heated towel rails and underfloor heating were installed.
In conclusion, the bathroom was transformed into a modern, functional, and aesthetically pleasing space without the need for major architectural changes. The thoughtful selection and placement of fixtures, tiles, and additional features resulted in a significant upgrade, proving that a major transformation can be achieved without moving the existing fixtures.
The original layout of the apartment, featuring a separate toilet and insufficient kitchen storage, was in dire need of modernisation. The client's specifications entailed the inclusion of a bath, a laundry area, and a fully functional kitchen.
To meet these requirements, we revamped the floor plan to incorporate a comprehensive bathroom outfitted with a shower over the bath , toilet. For added utility, we recessed a three-mirror cabinet into the wall above the vanity. A laundry area, furnished with a washer and dryer, was strategically placed within the bathroom alcove concealed by bifold doors when not in use.
The kitchen's transformation saw it evolve into an efficient U-shaped design, highlighted by under-bench drawers and glass-fronted storage units. To address the need for ample storage, we devised an alcove to accommodate the refrigerator and pantry.
We opted for grey laminate floorboards for the flooring, striking a balance between durability and cost-effectiveness.
A newly created alcove in the living room now serves dual purposes: an entertainment centre and a display area.
Both bedrooms benefited from the installation of new wardrobes. We covered the bedroom floors with carpet for comfort and opted for space-saving Venetian blinds for the windows.
In conclusion, this renovation project successfully transformed the apartment into a modern, functional, and aesthetically pleasing living space, expertly tailored to meet the client's needs.
In this newly built home, the clients desired assistance with colour selection and the incorporation of new furniture pieces, particularly for their entrance way, master bedroom, and powder room. They were eager to infuse their home with colour.
The living room was revitalised with cushions, their colours carefully chosen to complement an existing artwork. Additionally, we added a pendant light over the dining table and a rug beneath it for a cozy ambiance. An occasional chair was reupholstered to harmonise with the new colour scheme, and the fireplace was transformed with a fresh coat of green paint.
In the entrance way, we introduced a rug to lend softness and establish the colour palette for the rest of the home. An upholstered ottoman was added for seating. The powder room was given a makeover with patterned wallpaper in tones of green and gold, consistent with the overall colour scheme of the house.
The master bedroom was dramatically enhanced with a feature wall painted in a striking shade of blue, artfully chosen to complement the artwork. A forest green, fluted velvet bedhead, new bedside tables, and amber-coloured pendant bedside lights were introduced to complete the look.
In conclusion, through thoughtful colour selection and the careful addition of new furniture and lighting elements, we were successful in bringing the clients' vision to life. A harmonious colour palette, inspired by their artwork, was carried throughout the home, creating an aesthetically pleasing and cohesive design.
